Seit dem Debut bei den Klangspuren Schwaz 2002 arbeitet der Komponist Sebastian Themessl regelmäßig mit namhaften Orchestern, Ensembles und Solisten zusammen.

1975 in Innsbruck geboren, begann Sebastian Themessl seine Ausbildung bei Martin Lichtfuss und schloss in der Klasse Erich Urbanners 2003 sein Tonsatz- und Kompositionsstudium an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien mit Auszeichnung ab. Er besuchte zahlreiche internationale Kurse und erhielt u.a. den Theodor Körner Preis, den Preis der Stadt Innsbruck und das Österreichische  Staatsstipendium. Seine Werkliste umfasst über 30 Kompositionen. Auftragswerke entstanden u.a. für die Zürcher Streichersolisten, das Österreichische Kulturinstitut Berlin, das Italien Zentrum, das Forum Austriaco di Cultura a Roma, das CEDAG-Quartett, die International Academy of Science, die Klangspuren Schwaz sowie das Europäische Forum Alpbach.

Seit 2009 Lehrtätigkeit am Tiroler Landeskonservatorium.

Seit 2012 Lehrtätigkeit an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien.

The composer Sebastian Themessl was born in 1975 in Innsbruck, Austria into a Viennese family of musicians. In 1996 he began composition studies at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and graduated with distinction in 2003 from the class of Erich Urbanner. During this time he attended master-classes given by Leon Schidlowsky in Zaragoza, Spain, and Azio Corghi at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Italy. Further studies led him to the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome, the University for Music in Prague, and the Conservatory of Naples.

His artistic work has been acknowledged by several awards and scholarships from the Theodor Körner-Fond, the Republic of Austria, the Emanuel Fohn-foundation, the City of Innsbruck and the Republic of Italy.

Sebastian Themessl presently lives as composer and teacher at the Conservatory of Innsbruck and the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. He has written numerous compositions for individual artists, chamber ensembles, orchestras, and institutions such as the University and Symphony Orchestra of Innsbruck, the Zurich String Soloists, the Mozarteum String Quartet, the Koehne-Quartet-Vienna, the Austrian Centers in Rome and Berlin, the International Academy of Science, the CEDAG-Quartett, the Klangspuren Festival in Schwaz, the European Forum Alpbach and the Viennese pianist Gottlieb Wallisch.
